The CDC has released a report about measles outbreaks across the country so far in 2011. Long story short, in communities where vaccination rates have dropped (either because of unfounded autism-related fears or refusal/inability to obtain vaccinations) we have essentially welcomed back a disease that was all but eradicated in the United States. It’s the fastest increase in cases in fifteen years.

Measles is not the cute little kid with red spots on his face and a thermometer in his mouth. It is a serious infection that can lead to pneumonia and death. Just ask the French, who have been dealing with a three-year outbreak as a result of their own vaccination difficulties. It’s not pretty:

It’s not fair to say that all of these current cases are a result of people still linking vaccines to autism. BUT, that little blob in Minnesota? Andrew Wakefield has been targeting immigrant Somalis there for years. Just sayin’.
