Four hours left.

I can’t wait to be done with this place. I’m really no good at wasting time. Always wanting to be productive to the last minute.

Maybe I’ll focus my efforts on catching one last shoplifter.

What What What Would You Do?

Someone left a pair of brand new Tom Ford sunglasses in our store. I mean tags, box, everything still intact. Worth? $360. Being that it’s Mall of America, they probably counted them a loss instead of trying to retrace their steps through 500+ stores.

Who am I to question the will of the universe? So I adopted them, keeping them safely on my dresser. All the while trying to decide if I should sell them or use them. Thoughts?

“Fifteen to eighteen percent of girls under twelve now wear mascara, eyeliner and lipstick regularly; eating disorders are up and self-esteem is down; and twenty-five percent of young American women would rather win America’s Next Top Model than the Nobel Peace Prize. Even bright, successful college women say they’d rather be hot than smart. A Miami mom just died from cosmetic surgery, leaving behind two teenagers. This keeps happening, and it breaks my heart.

Teaching girls that their appearance is the first thing you notice tells them that looks are more important than anything. It sets them up for dieting at age 5 and foundation at age 11 and boob jobs at 17 and Botox at 23. As our cultural imperative for girls to be hot 24/7 has become the new normal, American women have become increasingly unhappy. What’s missing? A life of meaning, a life of ideas and reading books and being valued for our thoughts and accomplishments.”
—“How To Talk To Little Girls” by Lisa Bloom (via crookedindifference)

I see this everyday at work. Elementary girls wearing a face full of makeup. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s important that girls are taught how to wear makeup correctly. I also don’t think there is anything wrong with letting them try mom’s makeup on or anything like that. I do, however, think that those practices are best left within the confines of the home and not out in public. It’s not appropriate.

There’s nothing wrong with teaching someone to look their best, but it’s a healthy measure that’s key. Mothers need to start mothering and not best friend-ing.

5:20 am

I’m sitting on my store’s floor waiting for my manager. Inventory is to day and I’m slightly hoping she got too drunk at the wedding she was in last night and sleeps through her alarm. For my sake, not hers obviously. Only a store manager can conduct inventory and I’d have no problem sending everyone home or waking my district manager up for that matter, simply to tell her such. Fingers crossed.

Stupid skinny white bitch.

Today’s my last Saturday working in Mall of America. I can’t wait to not hear passive-aggressive things like this simply because I ask someone to please watch their language in a children’s store. It takes everything inside me not to tell them they can either stop being such an irrational cunt or leave.

No matter what your personal beliefs are, the ruling today in New York effects you. Freedom in one area promotes freedom in others. You can't want the freedom to live the way you choose (ie: religion, speech, etc) while wanting to restrict the lives of another. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it feels like every time this country takes a step in this direction. I will never know or appreciate it to it’s fullest because it does not directly affect me. But I can appreciate it for it’s indirect effects and its principle (amongst other things). We all should, for it allows us the opportunity to keep living the lives we know today.

I celebrate with those who this affects and share in the hope that one day this will no longer be an “issue.”

(For my “full” thoughts on this, please read this.)

“She’s Not There” by Nick Cave and Neko Case // Originally by The Zombies

Two of rock’s greatest voices teaming up to cover a classic Zombies jam for True Blood? Sounds like a fucking great idea. Nick Cave should be involved in everything that has a Southern Gothic vibe, then again - so should Neko Case. Glad True Blood’s music supervisor thought to pull this one off.

LOOK, MY HEAD EXPLODED. LITERALLY.

for the love of god!! this song makes me want to become a dirty sexy drug addict.
